Green Room: Greed Is Good

MELBOURNE, May 25, 2006 – Months of intimidation and fear-based campaigning came to
fruition for the Drowsy Drivers last month, when they won a 2005 Green
Room Award for Best Original Music (Cabaret).

Curiously, the band won in the very category for which they had
explicitly outlined plans to kill all competition. "It’s amazing how
things work out sometimes," said singer Mike McLeish with a wry grin.
"If there’s a message that the kids can take from this, it’s that
brandishing a high-powered sniper rifle can do wonders for your social
status."

The one note of resistance came from singer, performer and noted
plagiarist Tim Minchin, who expressed his anger by wearing a T-shirt
that read "Tim And His Many Friends Say: Crash And Burn, Drowsy Driver
Scum". On the day, however, it was Minchin himself who came a cropper,
and he walked away with nothing but his delightful partner, his Perrier
Best Newcomer Award, his sold-out Hi-Fi Bar shows and his burgeoning
international career to console him.

"Yeah, we really showed him," boasted guitarist Justin Ludowyk. "It’ll
be a long, long time before he crosses paths with the Drowsy Drivers
again." – [ ]
