Queensland

      Queensland

I remember Jason and Kylie
Back when they were Scott and Charlene
Young and carefree
Ev’ry evening on TV
And ev’ry morning on the cover of another magazine

Soon they felt a yearning for freedom
But careful that the fans weren’t betrayed
They didn’t expire
Or perish in a sudden fire
They moved up to Queensland, and that’s where they stayed.

  Queensland – sweet blissful haze
Beautiful and perfect on alternating days
  Queensland – I wish I were there
The burden of sentience is more than I can bear.

Life is like a show on fast-forward
You barely get a glimpse of your prime
Soon you’ll go grey
Back and hips are giving way
You do your level best to slow it, ’til you know it’s your time

Then you think the credits are rolling
But suddenly a new show’s begun
And you’ll realise
No-one ever really dies
They just move to Queensland, to bathe in the sun.

  Queensland – that rapturous state
  Heavenly democracy since 1988
Queensland – we’ll get there someday
    We’ll gravitate to that address
    Assimilate and convalesce
The promise of unconsciousness will wash our pain away.
    (It’s gonna be okay.)
