Helpmanns: Bring It On!

MELBOURNE, July 7th, 2006 – In the wake of a nomination for Best Original Score at this year’s
Helpmann Awards, the Drowsy Drivers have apparently vowed not to follow
the destructive
publicity pattern of death threats and misinformation that they usually
execute.

"No, no, no. We’re flattered, of course, to be nominated," said frontman Mike
McLeish, with no trace of a smirk, "and we wish our fellow nominees the
best of luck on the night. Well done, everyone!"

"Absolutely, absolutely," agreed co-singer Casey Bennetto. "It’s just a
privilege and an honour to be in such… such prestigious company. I
mean, look at Iain Grandage – he’s nominated twice this year, which is
testament to the fine quality of his recent work. In the
wake of that, what do a few personal indiscretions and slipups really
matter? I just hope the voting panel are focused on the talent of the man, and not keen to handicap him for some of the
more questionable associations of his past.

"He and Carl Polke deserve a
lot better than to have their names dragged through the mud again. They deserve a fair hearing."

The Helpmann Awards are to be staged on Monday, July 31st, hosted by Simon Burke and broadcast on Fox8. – [ ]
